How to Style 3 Sweaters into 12 Outfits
“I have nothing to wear!!” says you as you stare into your abundant closet. Ah yes, I’ve been there too, girl.
My hands are up; I’m guilty.
I’ve often found myself buying new clothes because I feel like everything in my closet is either over-worn, boring, or I just don’t know how to wear certain pieces to their fullest potential. I’ve also used the excuse of “I’m trying to find myself in clothing, I don’t feel ~me~ with what I wear.”
While that statement is 100% true, I thought I’d approach all this in a totally different way.
Let’s talk a bit about how to style the sweaters you own into amazing, new outfits.
Back to Basics
If it’s one thing I’ve learned during my fashion journey, it’s that you need your basics to lay the foundation for your wardrobe.
No matter how many times I’ve heard that in the past, I never paid attention to it. Don’t ask me why. I’m still wondering that myself. But now that it’s clicked in my head, I fully understand the power of everyday basics.
That incredible jacket that’s a perfect statement piece? Nope. Those funky pants that would be amazing for the holidays? Nope. Those wild boots that you know would be a hit on Instagram? Nope.
Instead, think: solid colored turtlenecks, neutral-toned cardigans, and cream mock-neck sweaters.
I know what you’re probably thinking. “Basics are so boring to buy!” Honestly, in the past, I couldn’t agree more. But once you start buying basics and building your wardrobe in this way, you will fall in love with the simplistic, versatile, and timeless nature of these pieces. Plus, the more foundational pieces you have in your closet, the more variety you have when wearing your statement pieces. See? It all works out.
The 3 Sweaters
You’re probably here because you came from my IGTV, which was a collaboration with Modern Citizen. If not, hey, hi, hello, we are experimenting with three sweaters from Modern Citizen in this blog post. And I’m breaking down all the outfit details below.
(P.S. Modern Citizen is a female-founded, local San Francisco women’s clothing brand with a 14-person team. Amazing, if I do say so myself.)
I wear a size Medium in the cardigan, Small in the blue turtleneck, and a XS/S in the mock-neck sweater.
